gal_03I have been building Irish bouzoukis since 2003. The Irish bouzouki is no longer similar to its original from Greece. The calebasse body shape has been replaced by a flat top A-style mandolin body. The sound is more direct and louder .

I make that instrument in several scale lengths, tunings and body sizes. The top of standard models are braced by a modified crossbracing and the strings are held the same way as normal accustic guitars are, by bridge pins on top of the instrument.

This way, it seems to me, the sound achieves the characteristic bass and middles. The attack is lively and more direct than the ‘original Irish Bouzuki’, somtimes even similar to an oud. For bouzoukis built that way it is easier to get strings, (normal accoustic guitar strings may be used) and that allows the user to shape the sound however he or she likes.

I will also do traditional style Irish bouzukis and other bracings on demand.
